@mikemol @briankrebs Oh no, surely it won't be paid to Jared. I'm sure they'll have to make a large investment in American Patriot Technologies, LLC or some other similarly named brand new company to get final approval

"Public institutions are funded by taxpayers' money: their communications serve public interests and should be open to all - without the need of creating social media accounts on proprietary, for-profit closed systems. This is especially salient for European governmental communications: isn’t it absurd that they would require social media accounts owned and run by U.S. based companies?"

Gift link: This guy is back to threatening to yank broadcast licenses if he or the president doesn’t like the war coverage.

This is totalitarian shit.

FCC Chair Threatens to Revoke Broadcasters’ Licenses Over Iran War Coverage

The comment from Brendan Carr came on the heels of a social media message from President Trump criticizing the news media’s coverage of the war with Iran.

@Catriona @jeffjarvis Or they externalize that shame and become violent and unhinged, eventually turning to mass murder.

@MisuseCase @peter Reforming police liability is a whole separate issue. IMO police should have to carry insurance just like doctors or EMTs have to. If an officer sued for malpractice, it becomes effectively cost prohibitive for them to continue working in that field because insurers will either raise the price or refuse to insure them.

Also, end qualified immunity.

@peter I think there could even be a pretty good argument that even in spite of the official terms of use stating "AI can make mistakes," they could still be held liable. If the vast majority of a company's marketing is "this tool is great and you should use it!" but in the fine print (which the person harmed didn't consent to) it says "this tool often causes great bodily harm," they have misrepresented their product in marketing and should be liable for damages.
@peter When people sue the local police department for these violations, it needs to be for huge sums of money and they need to include the "AI" company involved. The first point will hopefully make departments think twice about using this technology. The second will probably get tossed because of the terms of use agreement with the department, but at least make them pay for the lawyer time to argue that in court.
@mcnado As a combat vet, if I ever see anyone wearing an "Iran Veteran" hat, I'll immediately lose all respect for them.
