Just went over to the other place for a quick peep and saw someone complaining about being asked to put CWs on posts over here for things they don’t think are upsetting, like “Politics”. It started to make me think about how I feel about both my own and others’ use of CWs. Would be interested to see what others think. Long🧵:

Yesterday I posted about worries re. moderation at mastodon.social/.online:

And asked the community to feed back about whether they'd like to do nothing, 'silence', or 'defederate'. The response was almost entirely in favour of silencing.

Today, especially after noticing that those two instances DO federate with an instance that hosts fascist content, we went ahead with that silence:

I think I'm getting the feeling that people are beginning to get it. This place was built on the premise that it listens to people that were not listened to on the other site, so they went and built what they needed. Now that everyone has had to come here you're seeing what we needed but was ignored. This is just a site. Think of what the outside world could be like if you listened to us there too. There's a lesson in all of this #Trans #MastoDaoine

They're attacking the artists themselves, harassing, being generally naughty.

Unfortunately, because their passports are from the instance I'm at currently, there might be a defederation because the amazing individual playing Atlas keeping the mastodon.social sky up over our heads has been overwhelmed.

Well, at worst I guess I can move off Mastodon.social and ease the load while it's all getting sorted.

I think I'd do very poorly as a moderator on @mastodon.social.

I am more than a little salty at the individuals who think they're made of the super-de-dooper clevers because they're attacking all the wonderful creators on @Mastodon.art.

I would show as much mercy and kindness to them as they're showing to the creative community.
