I told chatgbt it could be the next Darwin. It was tempted to agree then realised it shouldn't.

Can someone explain the choice of article to me here? A 5th Year student called it into question, and I agreed it felt wrong. Style guides we consulted suggested it should be 'an LED'.
Help a pedant out.
