Another reason to hate #Apple We're seeing more 2018+ MacBook Pro/Air donations — but Apple's T2 chip means even after iCloud sign-out and reset, the firmware stays locked to the original account.

Without donor contact, these machines are useless. :(

I've upcycled ~1,000 older Macs, but T2 era machines will end that. It's controlling, creates e-waste, and will only get worse. #righttorepair matters — Apple couldn't care less.

@kbm0 Berwick was built generations earlier than Petrovardin (end of the Elizabethan era) and military engineering did a lot of growing up in the intervening decades. Vauban wasn't even born yet when Berwick was built (and it shows).
@kbm0 Berwick is ultimately a very simply construction compared to this one, and significantly smaller at ~1.65 miles around the perimeter. It did have protected galleries which made it possible to fire along the major wall lengths. With Petrovaradin, you've got this nesting effect creating artificial ditches with highly effective fields of fire. Berwick would actually be pretty easy to lay siege to, I'd guess.

@MissConstrue I think I accidentally broke the threading, so you'll have to scroll through my account timeline to figure out where it picks up.

I wish Mastodon had a "keep posting to this thread until I tell you not to" type option. Maybe it does and I am just being dense.

@mackayim2022 Elevator pitch: Jack Reacher headbutts an alien battlemech. Give me my money.
@Jorro Plus, a blockade is an act of war. If you are blockading a country's ships, you are fundamentally making war on them. It's a "heave to and prepare to be boarded or else " kind of act where the or else is "we will blow you to kingdom come."

@MissConstrue You might like this video which shows the expansion and contraction of the Ottoman Empire by year. It's interesting to slow step through it and try to remember the different events and names of polities and wars and match it up against the map.

@cmconseils Wow, Adolf von Becker was a really old cat! ;)
@BRicker By comparison, Fort George in Scotland is ~1.2 miles around the perimeter.
@BRicker Lol, I just checked and the outer perimeter is like 3 miles around. Good thing they had like 75k men when the Ottomans came knocking with 150k.
