Part two of my series on my visit last fall to Newburgh and New Windsor, New York to see where my ancestor, Abner Poland (1761 - 1835) of Essex, Massachusetts, had recieved the Badge of Merit from General George Washington. The National Purple Heart Museum is a great place to explore the Badge of Merit, which became the Purple Heart award after World War I. Did your ancestor or relative receive a Purple Heart, or a Badge of Merit during the American Revolution?
