I suspect there is a bit of grooming going on here as well. Not only are we being groomed to accept the presence of the military in our streets, but the troops are also being groomed to be violent. Trump recently said publicly: "I've told police to be violent with protesters, they're allowed to do whatever the hell they want."

Being violent with fellow human beings, let alone fellow citizens, does not come naturally.

You pretty much nailed the description.

Another reason that AI is not inevitable: AI is a high energy / high metabolism system positioned atop multiple layers of high energy / high metabolism systems that are already straining for access to diminishing supplies of energy and resources.

Not only is this still a great — and relevant — song 60 years on, but this video is a fantastic example of kinetic intelligence. Just watching this woman play with her whole body brings tears to my eyes.

We misjudge our predicament if we believe that “we all want the same things.”

Narcissists and sociopaths want only two things.
1. Power
2. More power

From power they derive physical safety and economic security. They have no concept of love, connection, and happiness. Most are ambivalent towards clean water and healthy food.

Unfortunately, narcissists and sociopaths are much more common than we would like to believe.

I will close that tab before I read your popup. Every Time.

Good points. If the law no longer applies, then the law no longer applies.

All that they have going for them is their willingness to use violence — albeit supported by a massive police and surveillance apparatus.

But we have our guile (I love that), our emotional and social intelligence, our willingness to work together, and our understanding of a bigger picture.

Unfortunately, the law does not apply to everyone equally. There is an in-group and an out-group.

For the in-group: the law protects them but does not bind them.

For the out-group, the opposite is true. The law binds us, but does not protect us.

The two best things you can do for a small-press author are to buy direct from the publisher and to write a review. Both the author and the publisher make twice as much money when you buy direct. And reviews are the life's blood of publicity.
Awareness is a lagging indicator.
