Today's cellular automaton in #Godot : Langton's Ant.
It's even better as an ant colony.
I enjoy maths, juggling, coding, sleeping and thinking, in no particular order.
Expect from me some video game screenshots, some astrophysics, some shaders, some forlorn words, some new ones too, and random curiosities found on the seashore of the internet.

Today's cellular automaton in #Godot : Langton's Ant.
It's even better as an ant colony.
It's fairly easy to make #CellularAutomata in #Godot using a #shader.
There's barely any Gdscript, just enough to connect the top-left Rule LineEdit with the shader parameter.
To read back from the written pixels, I use two SubViewports and two ViewportTextures.
That's no Lenia, but it's pretty neat for a few minutes of hacking around.

The version 1.5.0 of the AnimatedShape2D addon is out !
Linked frames (sharing the same frame data resource) are now highlighted when one is selected.
This version also solves the benign error message about UndoRedo.

The version 1.4.0 of the AnimatedSHape2D is out !
It comes with fixes and performance improvements. If you were using a previous version, you should definitely update to this one.
This release also marks the publication of this addon on the official Godot Asset Library. \o/

I've added the last feature I planned on adding to the AnimatedShape2D #addon for #Godot : shifting frames.
This is handy when you've added new frames in the middle of your animation and want to adjust the shapes with a minimum of effort.

Now I can stop shaving the yak and get back to actually making a #game .
Annnd now we can use the mouse to resize and reposition the shapes for each frame of the animation. This improves the usefulness by 200%. Took about 11h over three days.
I can now configure the hurtboxes and hitboxes of any animation in only a few seconds. And so can you. Enjoy !
