Begun in 1885, the ambitious 11.2km Lake Biwa Canal (琵琶湖疏水-there are 2) broke countless records. It was the first time dynamite had been used in Japan, blasting tunnels through the mountains between Ōtsu & Kyōto.
The canal supported Japan's first hydroelectric power station.

Here's a shot of the 4014 before it passed under me to enter the Williams Loop in the Feather River Canyon of Northern California. It was really boiling steam and smoke chugging up hill in the Sierra.
7/x

Went to go see the Akashi castle ruins and was pleasantly surprised by a little festival happening + lots of Sakura.

Apparently, this park that is local to us is one of the best spots for viewing Sakura in early April! Lucky us.

Almost to San Fran with too much luggage and 2 cats in tow. This is Kitty, my more adventurous cat. Pumpkin stayed tucked away in her carrier.

This was the most time consuming & in depth book repair I've done. I disassembled the book, steamed pages, repaired pages with tengucho paper, re-bound the book, & made a new casing. It was my first time doing a rounded spine, so that was a bit scary! There was quite a bit of spine swell due to old adhesive that I wasn't able to completely remove + my own oversight of thread thickness.
