Cities are fine but not for me.
I post about food and fibre AKA farming.

In case you need some good news (or a reminder of)

Today is the anniversary of the Same Sex Marriage amendments passing (7/12/17) in Australia.

The world can change for the better, sometimes we have to keep shouting until enough people listen.

And yes, sometimes that process is awful and painful, for those affected too

Billionaires are a cancer on the human race
First time I’ve seen this in my garden (or anywhere else) - a fiddler beetle. Photo failed to capture the iridescence of the green markings. #australia #beetles
It was high tide at Mascot this morning and the lower reaches of the Cooks River were overflowing.
I was starting to wonder if I was imagining one of the nearby Tawny Frogmouths could be nesting given it’s quite late in the baby season (the other tawny families around here fledged a month ago) and I wasn’t seeing much change at the nest. Going out in the super hot weather to check was rewarded. I was delighted to meet new local muppets!

Bruce Lehrmann loses appeal against failed defamation case ruling
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2025-12-03/live-bruce-lehrmann-defamation-appeal-finding/106090370

Convicted rapist and Liberal Party staffer, Bruce Lehrmann, has lost another court case. He was trying to undo the court's earlier decision that journalist Lisa Wilkinson and her employer, Network Ten, were reporting the news truthfully when they stated he had raped Brittany Higgins in 2019. I am not a lawyer, but my understanding is that the Truth Defence in a Defamation case is difficult to pull-off in Australia, yet they managed it because the facts were so clear. Furthermore, it's now safe to say that Bruce Lehrmann deserves his reputation as a rapist, Lisa Wilkinson and Network Ten didn't harm his reputation, and any reputational harm he's incurred has been self-inflicted.

In this fresh loss for the politically-protected, right-wing rapist, the court added to the damning record of Bruce Lehrmann:
- In a bizarre backflip from earlier claiming he didn't rape Brittany Higgins, this time he tried to downplay his crimes by asserting he committed rape in a "non-violent" fashion. The court said it didn't make a lot of difference for the Truth Defence; however you look at it, he's still a rapist.
- He should pay legal costs for Lisa Wilkinson and Network Ten for this case.
- He still owes $2 Million for legal costs for Lisa Wilkinson and Network Ten for previous losses.

Moments in time captured in fired clay!
Somewhere in a Roman brickyard, around 1800 years ago, a fresh tile was drying peacefully ahead of firing - until a small dog trotted straight across it.
Centuries later, the tile has made it into a museum: not because of an emperor or a legion, but thanks to one dog who accidentally walked his way into history.

Found in Ladenburg, on display at Lobdengau-Museum.

Sparrows fry up pretty good too. I'd know a few over with a BB gun in the grandparents backyard and they'd pluck then fry them in a pan. Same with pidgeon. Thinking back pretty much anything that strayed into the backyard got cooked and eaten.
There's another dish called 'Occhiu di rispettu', which I won't say too much about except it involves boiling a whole sheep, wool and all, in a couldron. If you have been a good kid you get to eat the eye.
