As a user, I'm not mad about the Adobe/Figma breakup. But as a former-startup person, I feel super bad for the founders now under immense pressure to deliver financially for their backers.

How Figma treats their people as they deal with the fallout of this is going to be referred to for a long time. Let's hope it's an example to follow that honors their humans and the importance of design.

I don't like linking to Xitter, but I'll make an exception: this thread summarizing the UK's pandemic response ahead of Boris Johnson's appearance at the covid inquiry is ... pretty depressing. https://twitter.com/danielgoyal/status/1732071139562647874?s=21 #COVID19 #BorisJohnson

Before Johnson gives his evidence we should consider a few things: 1. Just how bad was the UK pandemic response? 2. How much could Johnson have affected this? 3. What was Johnson’s intent? 4. Was there any overt maleficence? Thread 1/n (buckle-up!)

I suppose if you think that ultimately, the only thing in life that can matter is whether people can make as much money as possible, then what he did was for the best. If Johnson was honest, he'd say he was elected on that basis. Vote for me and I will make sure you can make as much money as possible with no regard to any consequences from that. Social, environmental, religious or any other. Literally the only test was, "Does this prevent or promote the maximization of profit?"

Don’t make Paul Dacre a Lord

Any day now it's expected to be announced that former Daily Mail editor Paul Dacre will be added to the House of Lords. In his time at the Mail, Paul Dacre has been accused of stirring up hatred against immigrants, politicians and judges alike - and now he could have a say on how the UK is run. And he and his paper are even currently facing legal action over alleged privacy breaches. At the very least, he should not be honoured with a peerage while the court case is in progress, but...

You'll notice product managers sometimes say in presentations, "Apologies for the ugly slides, I'm not a designer", but never, "Apologies for the naĂŻve thinking, I'm not a designer." #rage #UX #SeatsAtTables
