As part of my ongoing research, I’ve mapped U.S. county clusters showing significant spatial variations in COVID-19 mortality trends and relative risk (RR) in CONUS counties between 2020 and 2022. RR > 1 indicates higher mortality than expected, while RR < 1 suggests lower. Notably, counties around NYC show a strong decreasing trend, while regions with RR > 1 continue to face rising mortality rates.

Super happy with the semivariogram I was able to get with the spatial empirical Bayes smoothed rates of MMR vaccination exemptions in Colorado!

The kriging model coming out of this looks great.

Here are the results of my latest project which looked at spatial and socioeconomic factors of opioid distribution in the US.

More details upcoming, but these are the highlights.

Lastly, here is the significance map to go along with it.

In my current work, one of the covariates are healthcare facility rates (per capita) per US census tract, including hospitals, clinics, and doctor's offices. Exploring the data uncovers interesting clusters of high and low rates in tracts.

While population centers show expected high rates, surprising patterns emerge, like Michigan's significant High-High cluster.

I've spatially smoothed rates to help adjust for areas with misleadingly high rates due to low population.

My latest time series analysis uncovers intriguing patterns in opioid purchases over time in the US. There are surprising seasonal spikes every year, but the overall amount of opioid purchases is decreasing after a peak in the early 2010s.

Here’s a screenshot from my kriging map of binge drinking across the US. As you can see, the #Colorado Rockies were highlighted as having a high rate of binge drinking here as well.

Anyone have any idea why this pattern exists?
