Woke up to see @delta is now the #1 app in the entire App Store!! In less than 12 hours!!!

I feel like I’m dreaming 🥹

So, expect some thoughts over the next few days. Not s review unit from Apple and PR was not involved in any way. For reference, here are my thoughts after the launch of AVP and all the reasons I'm skeptical, if not of the long term concept, but of this device and what it offers.

Apple gave us no good reason to buy the Vision Pro

Apple's AR/VR gadget is a big gamble with a fatal flaw, columnist Michael Gartenberg argues.

Apple Store was busy as usual but there was no wait for a demo (which I highly recommend, if nothing else, it's a free peek at what everyone's chattering about). There was plenty of stock available, lots of people interested salesperson told me, not many wanting to invest the full half hour, few purchases (although I suspect those who wanted did the pre-order).

After going through my closets and drawers, I found enough old Apple gear to trade in that brought the cost of a Vision Pro to just under $1k (yes, I had an awful lot of stuff laying around*). At that price, it's time to give it a go (or worst case, return it for a nice shiny new Mac). Any questions for a skeptic turned owner? Time to go down the rabbit hole.

*I also have a 20" G4 "Luxo" Mac brand new, sealed in box and a G4 Cube that weren't eligible for trade in.

Don't look for a big price cut on the Apple Vision Pro. More likely a 128gb model for $2,999

Look for an Apple Vision for holiday 2024. Likely no cameras on the front, no 4k, 1080p using current Sony micro LED liquid retina or some new buzzword. Plastic, polycarbonate frame. No extra straps or charger. Runs the full catalog of vison pro apps. Starting at $1,999. We can't wait to see what you do with it.

You heard it here first.

"One thing I know from my years as a market researcher and my time working at Apple during the Jobs era, is that the vast majority of users won't pay money for flashy new tech that doesn't add something useful to their lives"

Apple's products are great, even if they're boring

Apple's designs don't change much under CEO Tim Cook, which is a good thing for its loyal users.

While walking on the Stanford campus this afternoon, we encountered:
• two women singing along to “Vienna” by Billy Joel playing on a portable Bluetooth speaker
• a young woman wearing a “Beatles Revolver 1966” hoodie
• a young man in the iconic Ramones tee

These were undergraduates. They weren’t alive in 2000, much less 1987 or 1975 or 1966. I don’t remember singing Cab Calloway or wearing a Scott Joplin high collar and cravat when I was in college.

It’s been three days in Kiryat Gate listening to the distant thunder of rockets landing. Women, children, the infirm are being slaughtered but this time in history those who perpetrated these acts will discover Jewish blood is not free & carries a steep cost.
I’m in Kiryat Gat at the moment, spent most of the day on the mamad amidst the rockets. Quiet this morning but that just means they’re shelling Tel Aviv. New Grandsons Bris is Wed. Waiting to hear if mohel was called up.
I’m really ok with billionaires, the few I know are all socially responsible and worked hard but of course had luck as well. Won’t debate that part. I will say if there *is* an argument against a billionaire class it’s Musk. The absurd amount of power he controls just through Starlink makes me very nervous. My fears are far more centered around humans like Musk and his ilk as opposed to AI.
