So similar to Brazil. In congress the rural caucus (bancada ruralista) overlaps w/ the cattle+guns+bible caucus (bancada do boi, bala e da bĂblia)and always vote in favor of agribiz.
Like in Argentina but maybe more strongly, the agribiz also use the soft power of culture like paying for soap-operas that celebrate the success of their toxic model, and buy radio stations too. We used to have "sertanejo" or country/folk music that became "AGROsertanejo" etc. #Agroecology #FoodSoverignty
30 years of growing #GMO soya—Argentina's massive open-air experiment has meant vast monocultures displacing thousands of families from their lands, millions of hectares devastated, and epidemics of disease caused by all the pesticide use—BUT $$ for agribiz and growing resistance. https://gmwatch.org/en/106-news/latest-news/20650-argentina-30-years-of-genetically-modified-soy

Researchers show exposure to #glyphosate reduces #bees' ability to forage and risks hive stability. After just three days, researchers tracked a reduction in foraging and changes in bee brain chemistry only in the #bees exposed to glyphosate. https://news.vt.edu/articles/2026/03/cals-honeybee-glyphosate-impact.html
Researchers show how common herbicide affects honeybee brains and behavior

While out collecting nectar, honeybees can encounter a range of chemicals. Glyphosate, a widely used herbicide, doesn’t usually harm bees outright. But researchers found that even though it isn’t lethal, it can make it harder for bees to gather nectar for food and honey production and affect their brain chemistry.

Why does Bayer want EPA-approved labels on pesticides to be the benchmark for liability? “Because it’s much easier for industry to capture a single federal agency than to capture 50 statehouses” — Claudia Polsky, Director of the Environmental Law Clinic at UC Berkeley https://foodtank.com/news/2026/04/farm-bill-draft-and-executive-order-fuel-debate-over-pesticide-regulations/

Gov. Andy Beshear vetoed the pesticide immunity bill (SB 199), calling it “dangerous for Kentuckians” & something that “flies in the face of making America healthy.” But the GOP-controlled legislature overrode the veto—making Kentucky the 3rd US state to pass one of Bayer’s pesticide immunity bills. https://kentuckylantern.com/briefs/beshear-vetoes-bill-blocking-kentuckians-from-suing-pesticide-makers/

Democratic Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear has vetoed a bill that critics say would block Kentuckians from suing pesticide companies for failing to warn of their products’ hazards.

Bayer and the Trump administration want the EPA to have sole authority over pesticide cancer labels. But the EPA has put cancer warnings on just 1.4% of pesticide labels for thousands of products where they themselves found a “probable” or “likely” cancer risk!! https://www.thenewlede.org/2026/03/epa-cancer-label-warnings-pesticides/
Even when EPA finds a pesticide cancer risk, agency rarely requires warnings

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is failing to put warnings on pesticides linked to cancer — even when the agency itself determined a product’s ingredients are carcinogenic, according to two new analyses of federal data.
