Despite the fact that I live in Berlin for almost two years now I never painted this city. So here is something very typical for Berlin: A small public park and a person enjoying it. Painted on location with oil pastels!

I spent some time on rügen island and visited their famous chalk cliffs. It was a bright autumn day and there were cheerful colors everywhere. Choosing oil pastels made it difficult getting those trees right but painting the cliffs with it was really satisfying.

When travelling through Europe I often end up gazing at beautiful churches. Wandering around them makes you think about centuries of history those impressive buildings have encountered. So I tried to give this painting a whimsical feeling with intense colors and lighting.

I did an art prompt during Ace Week called "Amazing Ace" and went for this adventurous pilot. Imagine being present during the early days of flying and witnessing people trying out wonky plane designs.  

I went for soft pastels since I feel like I need more practice painting with chalk.

Something which always reminds me of sunday mornings is spending time in your backyard, seeing the sun rise.

As a kid you couldn't do that during the week, since you've got school to attend and also not on saturday, because there were too many cartoons to watch.

I used gouache for this to get some really vibrant colors.

Despite growing up near the belgian border, it took me way to long to realize how many amazing castles this country has. This is Château Vêves in beautiful Wallonia. When visiting it I missed opening hours and unfortunately couldn't get inside, but I still had this amazing view.

I have some very fond memories of past trips to Lübeck, so I painted their famous Holsten Gate. It's like the entrance to their old city centre, famous for marzipan and parades.

Since it's germany, the Holsten Gate is usually surrounded by cars. It took the liberty of replacing every car with a tree and I think the city of Lübeck could do the same!
