Convo:

Molly (5): Daddy. I really hate growing up.

Me (heart breaking): Oh sweetheart. I know. It’s hard. So many new things in your life. But think of all the cool new stuff you’ll get to learn. And the new friends you’ll make. And the new adventures we’ll all go on.

Molly (exasperated): DADDY! I said “throwing up.” I really hate throwing up.

Me: Ohhhhh. Sorry. Same girl. Me too.

Yeah. I'm the freezing nerd up at 4am to take photos of the lunar eclipse. Molly (5) had the good sense to reject my invitation to join her and just pulled up the covers in her warm bed.🌑 🌑 😑

J.J. Dupuis shares the 5 best books on the mysterious through science and skepticism. Have you read The Demon-Haunted World?

From the second we got in the car until she exited it for school, Molly (5) asked a series of random questions:
Why are there weekends?
Why don’t the back wheels of cars turn?
I finally lost it and said, “Molly! Please stop asking so many questions.”
Brief pause, Molly giggling and entirely self-aware, said: “Why?”

Right there. There’s my paternity test.

4. So, meaningless. And, oh. I buried the lede here. And I truly felt like a dick about it. The “artifacts” were actually replicas I had made in my experimental archaeology class. Me. A short white dude who has never hunted and who has never been described as sinewy. Ever. Sigh.
