#Audiologist advocating for #hearing #healthcare beyond the #hearingaid and increasing awareness of our #hearingbrain.
I am just a rural town audiologist wanting to help people that want to use their hearing as part of their communication to do it better.
Also "just" a hobby collector. #crochet #honeybees #fiberarts #booklover #gardening #fibergoats #bostonterriers #greatpyranees #ruralfarmlife
Sometimes a little snuggle is all you need. Bristles and Bailey. Bristles is the big spoon. #bostonterriers

I caught my cat chewing on electrical cords, so I had to ground her. She’s doing better currently and now conducting herself properly.

"I'm just saying," the first witch said. "A cat familiar is more traditional."

"Or a raven," the second witch said. "Where did she even get a dragon from, anyway?"

"She tamed it. In her last job," the third witch said.

"What job was that?"

"Princess."

"Oh. Well. No wonder she changed careers."

The more I learn the more I appreciate the deep well of learning. At 8 I learned that dogs hear higher pitches than humans. At 14 I learned that humans have a 20-20,000hz potential range of hearing. At 16 I learned that you hear in utero so you can recognize your mom’s voice. At 20 I learned that birds hair cells regenerate to replace damaged hair cells. In graduate school I learned that I will never stop learning about how the auditory system informs our communication.
I will be better today than I was yesterday, I will prepare to be even better tomorrow.

Bums me out to hear that science is under attack, but then I see articles like this that give me hope that good work is still being done.
How mRNA and DNA vaccines could soon treat diseases like cancer, HIV, autoimmune disorders

DNA and mRNA vaccines produce a different kind of immune response than traditional vaccines, allowing researchers to tackle some previously unsolvable problems in medicine.

It's pretty doomy in here. Here, have some goats (and a bonus llama and horse+goat-backscratcher)

📢Hot off the press: "Neuronal correlates of sleep in honey bees"

#CalciumImaging🔬 in sleeping #bees🐝: Antennal lobe neurons synchronise stronger during #sleep, likely due to reduced GABAergic coupling. #SNN💻 simulations show reduced #odour processing, similar to human sleep😴.

‘I can hear, I just can’t understand what people are saying’
Provided you are not trying to have a conversation with someone using a language you are unfamiliar with, I would like to unpack this statement. I hear it a lot, as in several times during my workday almost every day. And it means a lot of different things. The answer to what it might mean for one person may be different for the very next person I hear it from.
I will try to answer some of the most common reasons in upcoming posts.
