In classic #ActuallyAutistic fashion, I'm *terrified* of change. But also excited about the possibility of forming a more close-knit community. 😊

This account will remain as an archive. Feel free to peruse my posts preserved here for...posterity?

@phocks thank you :) I think I have to just decide and go for it. It’s just a bit overwhelming. And I worry about it confusing people and there being two accounts when you try to @ mention me (given I have the same username on both).

And of course worry I’ll do all this and it be a mess šŸ™ƒ (plus not having the posts.)

Ah…everything is always so scary to my brain. (Also, hello, fellow vegan!🌱)

@FediTips yes the website interface.
@FediTips but I guess the way the guide was written, I thought if you clicked the profile name on a post it would actually just take you to the new profile, not the old one with a redirect message.
@FediTips I was on the desktop version of basic mastodon.

@FediTips thank you so much!

Also, the guide said that if people click your username on old posts it will redirect them to your new account. I did a test with two dummy accounts last night and migrated one to the other.

But on the ā€œoriginalā€ account, when I click the username in the old posts, it still goes to the original profile. Is that the expected behavior? I thought it would take me to the new account?

@FediTips I’ve gone through the guide a few times. I still have a few questions (if you’re open to them):

1. Even if I do the full migration, when people @ mention me, it seems both accounts will pop up as options. I’m wondering how to not have that be confusing as to which one they should select?

2. Once I do the migration people can still comment on old posts. But I’m assuming I can only reply as my new account?

Thank you!

@murdoc thank you for your experience.

What do you mean you can’t access your old posts? I thought the old account stays there with the posts as long as you don’t delete it? Am I misunderstanding?

I did export an archive as well. But I thought the posts would remain here anyway? Am I wrong?

Also, can’t I still log into my original account after the migration?

@pathfinder

@pathfinder Thank you for the info. I exported my bookmarks and imported them to the new one. I just wish my actual posts that I made came with me....and especially the communication on them. The conversations and all. That is meaningful to me and the biggest sticking point for a migration.

But I'm also craving more community than I'm finding on the big sea of mastodon.social.

(Of course I’m quite terrified that I'll do this whole move and be just as disoriented šŸ™ƒ)

Why did you move?

@Moss so many options and considerations 🤯 (and so very much angst…which is what I’m primarily composed of, after allšŸ™ƒ).

Really appreciate your thoughts!
