OK, so with the talk of defederation reaching aus.social, I wonder if it's time to migrate this account?
Of course, they're beeping like maniacs right now, because that's their job.

Best purchase of the last few years? A small-office Uninterruptible Power Supply.

There's an electrician here doing some work, but I can still go about my day because my wifi is on the UPS.

Couple of hundred bucks each. I have one one the wifi with my NAS and a couple of other services, and one on each 3D printer with their octoprint controllers.

Kinda glad I invested in octoprint on top of what’s in the firmware.

A proper thermal overrun can be ugly. Like burning down the workshop ugly. That would be very very bad indeed.

Thermal runaway error on one of the 3d printers a little while ago. Thanks for catching that, Octoprint!

Texas Observer did it right.

Set up their own instance for staff: not just accounts on other instances.

Welcome to the Fedi:

@jeffjarvis Is this the first official press org to do what you advised?

An #introduction about me:

I'm a former American that migrated and settled in Australia. In my earlier years, I was a #developer that loved to write about and study #metaprogramming, #dotnet, #csharp, as well as dabble in a few #functionalprogramming languages. I did that for 20+ years, and now I'm in management.

My interests have since evolved to include #politics, #science, #technology, #gaming, #ukraine, #uspolitics, #auspol, #worldnews, and lots of #trance and #edm.

In terms of #political views, I am a left libertarian in the political compass (-3,-3), with a slightly contradictory-yet-firm belief that we as a society can get more things done by working together, rather than living in silos.

My interests include reading about politics for the US, Australia, and the war in Ukraine.

(Needless to say, if you think Ukranians are Nazis, then we will never and shall never get along. I always side with the underdog that fights for their freedom.)

In terms of religious views, I have none. You are free to believe or not believe what you choose, provided that you do not impose it on me, especially if I happen not to agree with whatever your religious views may or may not be.

I am here on #mastadon because I believe that it is a matter of time before #twitter is no more, and even though it is far less polished than Twitter, it's nice to have the water cooler experience, even at a smaller scale.

Follow me, and hopefully we can learn from each other.

Doing a bit of evening coding.

Temperature is dropping down here in the basement though. Might give up soon.

Or I could run my ruinously expensive heater for an hour or two.

You might have seen somebody using the proverb Vox Populi, Vox Dei. What was missing was the context in which it was used:

Nec audiendi qui solent dicere, Vox populi, vox Dei, quum tumultuositas vulgi semper insaniae proxima sit.

In case you do not speak Latin, it means in English:

And those people should not be listened to who keep saying the voice of the people is the voice of God since the riotousness of the crowd is always very close to madness.

Boost this toot if you're planning on sticking around Mastodon whether or not it becomes more popular than the birdsite.
