I feel like you hear about stolen artifacts from museums pretty often but I don't feel like you hear about the absolute terror of autograph collectors so much. I've heard stories from multiple archives that had to change the kinda oversight they have in reading rooms because autograph collectors were cutting signatures off of the documents before returning them. You catch missing documents a lot easier than a document you get back, but that just happens to be missing something.
