I really hope @Bonfire succeeds in their vision for federated groups. This is so important for the fediverse and I can envision many use cases in my own life.
Sadly, I'm not in a financial position to support them right now, but I hope I will be sometime soon.
Why Community Matters: Groups as the Next Step for the Fediverse

Federated groups in Bonfire will be spaces where communities gather to organise, care, and coordinate across the fediverse. They'll live next to your personal feed, but each group having a specific purpose: a study circle, a lab team, an activist collective, a local mutual aid crew, a project team. Inside youโll find posts, conversations, calendars, shared resources, and more. Crucially, groups will be portable and interoperable.
what if your messenger didn't care what protocol your friends use?
sup bridges activitypub, xmpp, irc, atproto and more into one clean app. pixelfed, mastodon, loops - every one.
modular by design. hackable by default.
open source + agpl + self-hostable
the ethical messenger that shouldn't exist but soon will. ๐ฅ

Ngl, I was loving this year's Benidorm Fest, then Eurovision 2025. Even tho it was in Spanish(Spain's spanish) I was still entertained. I hope they do this again next year(if it doesn't become an national final).
I'm updating this idea. Premade content labels, with the custom content warning still being there. This is not just for Mastodon, but for all of the fediverse.
Hi everyone! Weโre excited to share some updates:
Bonfire 1.0.1 is out! ๐
This release is all about making your social web experience livelier, more connected, and truly yours. It brings features like following hashtags, scheduled posts, dashboard widgets, and more. This is the very first delivery from the maintenance work funded by your incredible support. Thank you for helping us reach this milestone and keep Bonfire thriving!
For details about the release see our latest blog post: Bonfire 1.0.1: Building Momentum
Whatโs next for crowdfunding?
If you're an existing backer, the pledge manager is now open. Please keep an eye out for updates there so we can start preparing rewards for you.
The campaign is open again for the next month. With core maintenance funded, every new pledge (or increased pledge from existing backers) now goes directly toward our first stretch goal: federated groups. Support or share our extended campaign to help fund community-owned, cross-instance spaces for real collaboration and self-governance.
Bonus good news: Thanks to a new grant, end-to-end encrypted messaging in Bonfire is now funded and in development!
Thank you once again for being part of the Bonfire movement! Your feedback, support, and community spirit make all of this possible. If you have questions or want to get involved, reach out or come say hello at FOSDEM if youโre in Brussels at the end of January!
With gratitude,
The Bonfire Team
2026 is the year of WAFRN
What started as a Tumblr alternative has grown into an active and vibrant community โจ
Even growing beyond that to welcome former Cohost users with the ability to import your Cohost export into wafrn
One more thing, wafrn supports native ATproto/BlueSky federation.
Ya, they did ActivityPub and ATproto at the same time, before it was cool.
Consider supporting their pioneering project ๐
