Mating Dance #DailyPhoto #Photography 2026365, bird, grackle, mating April 14, 2026. Shooting birds in the back yard again. This female grackle was doing the mating dance - beak up in the air, spreading its wings, wagging its tail. Spent the day fixing my file upload, which I broke yesterday - Claude has very definitely been throttled, which puts a damper on my plans. https://ift.tt/TrOlbC1

Somebody mentioned the film 'Blow Out' and linked here - https://checkplease.neocities.org/couchto4k/p/critical-reception-and-legacy-blow-out - and based on that I watched it this evening - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lf8Sa1IUosU - and yeah, it was good. I can't find the original mention to give them credit, but if it was you, thanks.

People keep saying things like 'the internet is hell' (like this (probably paywalled) article here https://www.404media.co/how-the-internet-became-hell-with-whitney-phillips/ ) but my experience of it isn't that at all.

If you depend on commercial websites and use x/Twitter and Facebook and even LinkedIn more than a few minutes a day, sure, maybe it's hell. But I spend 90% of my time online in open access papers, personal blogs, and the fediverse. And my experience is just fine.

The internet is what you make it.

April 12, 2026. Beaver Crossing. We took the ferry across the Ottawa River today to walk along the pathway at the Parc de Plaisance. It was cool and rainy and almost empty, which led to us seeing wildlife, including this beaver crossing the path. #SDDaily #photography
