Canadian experience with vehicle headlights and glare at night

Transport Canada wants to learn how headlight glare affects road users and what vehicle or lighting features may influence how people experience it at night.

a handful of years back, I briefly started messing around with the early generative AI models. I quickly concluded that they're more-or-less a novelty - a toy - and then grew bored and moved on.

then rich techbros started pushing that novelty toy on us in a million different ways, claiming that it could replace creatives and programmers, that it could act as our therapist and our support system, as our friend and romantic partner.

that toy infiltrated our work lives. it started sucking up energy and water. it made personal computing expensive as shit. it showed up on my phone and in my web browser without my consent. people who should be resistant to the allure of a glorified novelty started hyping it as essential to their process. people even started claiming the toy was sentient.

and the thing is, the toy hasn't got much better. it still produces garbage art, it still gets shit wrong all the time, and it still spits out text in the most bland, customer-service-y tone imaginable.

when I look at not just the people hyping "AI," but the people saying the equivalent of "AI sucks except for X and Y use cases," what I see them doing is taking a baby rattle and trying to convince me that it's actually a hammer, because both of them make noise when you strike something with them.

It’s #LongCovidAwarenessDay . I’m in a huge flare so I don’t have a witty message.

But if you haven’t, I would be thankful if you checked out my art blog, @illmarks or maybe shared it with a friend (especially off fedi!).

Many of us w/ chronic conditions struggle to articulate the diversity / severity / scope of our symptoms, or be heard to when we do. That’s why I use creativity to show what I cannot say. Thank you for listening.

and of course, as a Canadian, i find reading about it in a three month old article in an Irish publication is to be totally fine. (/s) why would our national news papers cover anything relevant to Canadians?

Hm.

Anyone got a list of linux distros officially opposed to AI?

@LoadingReadyRun So it'll be more live-ish this time. S'okay.

Tell your friends.

PSA: directfile.irs.gov is dead. Not even a "we're closed" message with alternatives. Instead of going back to Turbotax or H&R Block, use freetaxusa.com. Ridiculous name, legitimate business. Federal filing is free. State is $16. Happily using it for the last 5 years. No referral code, just spreading the word.
@jay Thanks for the reminder. I did it over on Bluesky a ways back, but forgot about here.
For gods sake, please check to see if you are still following Gaiman now that he has reactivated his account, because some of the people who follow me still are. And you really shouldn't be.
