The Exxon Mobil “cast doubt on the climate science” strategy detailed in above-linked @WSJ article follows playbook well established by Big Oil and other polluting industries (also Big Tobacco), as devastatingly detailed in Naomi Oreskes & @erikconway ‘s book MERCHANTS OF DOUBT (& doc film of same title)

Surprise, surprise: new WSJ article shows how Exxon Mobil downplayed #climatechange and tried to undercut science that showed how fossil fuels contributed to our ongoing catastrophe—even while its CEOs like Rex Tillerson struck public poses of climate concern.

Thanks to storms across the northeast that diverted my flight, I'm stuck at the Toronto airport today. Which sucks for me, but is good for you since I finally get to write up some of my notes on the #CambridgeDisinformationSummit. 🧵

OK, saw Oppenheimer. It's an excellent movie, stipulated. But it grated on me, in a work that goes to such lengths to recreate history, to hear lines that seem flatly anachronistic like "I can relate" and "I need some wiggle room." Am I the only one?

A literary anecdote I've always liked is this exchange of telegrams:

Publisher: "NEED 2-PAGE SHORT STORY TWO DAYS."

Mark Twain: "NO CAN DO 2 PAGES TWO DAYS. CAN DO 30 PAGES 2 DAYS. NEED 30 DAYS TO DO 2 PAGES."
