I'm a retired programmer who spends way too much time with #ttrpgs, #puns, and occasional Opinions. These days, that includes Opinions about politics that threaten people I care about.

@TheLastOfHisName Good. There are several OSs that have chosen to refuse to comply with these laws. Banning their sale in states that enact such spying laws is fine - especially if they're open source.
So many people seem to forget that *every* surveillance law like this has led to a central repository of private data that has been hacked. We can just look forward to a growing number of privacy apps that block these verifications!

I'd never heard of those. The very thought is frightening. But if they're rare, the results seem to imply they work?

Oh, my, that had me laughing, too! What a change after just a few years!

What’s at stake in the fight against age verification is not just a single bill in a single state. It’s about whether “protecting children” becomes a legal pretext for embedding government control online that reinforces specific moral and religious worldviews. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2026/03/rep-finke-was-right-age-gating-isnt-about-kids-its-about-control
Rep. Finke Was Right: Age-Gating Isn’t About Kids, It’s About Control

What’s at stake is whether “protecting children” becomes a legal pretext for embedding government control over the internet to enforce specific moral and religious judgments—judgments that deny marginalized people access to speech, community, history, and truth—into law.

@QasimRashid I hope this is acceptable
@stefan You're not alone! But some of it seems to be ongoing mysteries waiting for the players to expose them, like all the threads of the rebels plot.

Bystander response is the primary driver of a choking person’s outcome, so ensuring people know the safest and most effective way to care for a choking person can save lives. Three experts explain. 🥦

Someone Choking? This Is Better than the Heimlich Maneuver | The Tyee

New evidence says back blows are more effective for adults, children and infants.

My brother in Christ, He's already here.

He is the family of refugees you deported for failing to have their papers with them at a Walmart. (Leviticus 19:33-34)

He is the hungry kid you denied food by cutting his SNAP benefits. (Matthew 25:35)

He is the sick grandmother who can no longer afford her medication because you let DOGE plunder her social security. (Deuteronomy 10:18-19)

He is the homeless person you arrested simply for sleeping outside when he had no other option. (Zechariah 7:10)

He is the trans woman you just convicted of a "sex crime" when she did nothing but dare to exist in public. (Matthew 19:12)

He is the poor, the disadvantaged, the abandoned, the elderly, the sick, the weary, and the downtrodden. And you - yes YOU SPECIFICALLY - will be judged by Him by how you treated Him here on earth. (Matthew 25:45)

@georgetakei I've heard that a few right-leaning Democrats have been catching grief for not living up to Mamdani's 'ideals'.
Pushing our government a bit farther from the choice between 'right wing' and 'nazi' seems like a good idea.
