Faretheewell, fandom.community, it was fun while it lasted.

Suggested reading to start - these are good books that give an introduction to the problem:

"Weapons of Math Destruction"
"Algorithms of Oppression"

For much more depth and detail I recommend the work coming from Timnit Gebru et.al. over at DAIR (who also have a Fedi presence worth checking out).

Mexican honey wasps- and yes they do make honey!- look like you gave a hornet a week to become a honey bee and this is the best it could do.

I just remember being really surprised, and pleasantly so, that the manga had somehow quite organically depicted an example of how privilege can blind someone to other people's efforts and disadvantages. (I also liked how the female lead then went 'let's all do better and educate them together' instead of banishing the snobby maid - collaboration and redemption!)

I wish I could remember which manga it was in the sea of isekai reincarnation stories, because I'd like to reread that scene. (2/2)

I can't recall which manga it was, but I'm pretty sure it was an isekai. The female lead-noble told off a maid-applicant for calling her fellow maid applicants lazy and disdaining they were not learning things fast enough. The noble lead pointed out that the snotty maid applicant wasn't working any harder or smarter - she'd simply had the advantage of being literate and being able to write down the tasks to learn the job quicker.

So, problems with a feudal reincarnation fantasy aside, (1/2)

tl;dr Call your US Representative and ask them to support S. 1541, which just passed the Senate by Unanimous Consent. https://www.house.gov/representatives/find-your-representative

Currently, there are spots in the US where calls from jails cost $1/minute. 1/3 families with someone incarcerated go into debt keeping in contact.

The Senate just passed S. 1541, which will bring prison phone and video call rates back down to reasonable levels and allow the FCC to start regulating video calls as well.

Great piece of research here from NZ on accessing services:

"The research also identified a series of ableist assumptions that contributed to access difficulties. Most common was the assumption that deaf people can readily engage with the English language, a belief that fails to appreciate that Sign Language is a unique language denoted by its own grammar and sentence structure & English is often the individual’s second language"

Study shows deaf people experienced challenges accessing healthcare during pandemic

A recent study has found that disabled people experienced insurmountable barriers accessing healthcare during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Another technology I think deserves more credit is cardboard. I know paper is pretty well-recognized as an incredible technology, and for good reason, but cardboard is really remarkable. It’s so useful for moving and storing and padding and supporting things in our world today, and it could play an even bigger role in reducing plastic waste in the future.

Another process of previous wip. i am procrastinating on the body x LOL. I'll get back to drawing danmei fanart soon. I promise. 😂
