I had a random thought at 5am this morning:

What would happen if you moved the ability to sponsor visas from companies to unions and removed caps? If a company wants someone to move to a country for work, they have to convince the union that it won’t depress wages but will increase the number of people working in the field (which strengthens the union). If your company has a reputation for treating workers badly, the union won’t let you have any work visas. If you hire an immigrant and treat them badly, the visa isn’t tied to you and the union can help them move to another employer.

Last year, my lil sis dropped her wallet while driving her moped in Wilsonville. She pulled off to the side and began to look for it. Police stopped and started harassing her, threatening to call ice. Once ice comes, you really do lose all rights. ( long family history of the states illegally deporting them )

Anyways, we discovered that if you call 911 and report that the person is experiencing chest pains and difficulty breathing (no drugs or alcohol involved) and need immediate medical attention, then when an ambulance shows up, they take presidents over the situation. If they get you to a hospital then you have time to make calls to friends, fam and legal aid. The most police can do is have you cuffed to a bed.

This may not work all the time but it does work and it's def more effective with advocate to watch and ensure they are getting care.

Also, when medical shows up to a scene, they collect the badge info of the police present as well as whatever notes they had to stop and harass. Usually police just give up and dip out though. Their fun is over and they don't want actual paperwork, they just want to torment out of boredom.

This is just a good tool to have if you're alone in a situation while watching someone be threatened with the potential of ice. Bidding time can be a powerful tool. We are not as helpless as individuals as the state may have us feel
