Yes, the #EU has a lot of regulations.

But remember that thanks to those regulations you can use a single USB-C cable that can charge anything, rather than 10 different connectors and adapters as it was common until 10-15 years ago.

Remember that it’s thanks to those regulations if you no longer have to pay eye watering roaming fees for calls and data when you travel to other EU countries, as it was common until 5-10 years ago.

Remember that it’s thanks to those regulations if big tech has at least some constraints onto what it can do with your data and how much choice you have as a customer.

Remember that it’s thanks to those regulations if you, as a EU citizen, can benefit from the services of any other embassy of any other EU country if stranded abroad.

Those who try to depict the EU as a bureaucratic hell worth dismantling are those who hate the impact that its laws have on their freedom of exploiting markets, exploiting customers or living out of rent money.

Or those who hate the combined economic and political power of a united Europe with a single market because it threatens their national interests, and they’d rather exert their leverage with a bunch of divided and weaker countries instead.

Europe isn’t perfect and a lot can be improved. But those who call for its demise DO NOT talk in your interests.

@eliasp @drahardja @skyfire747 @nomenloony Just to open the debate...

Define precisely "understand", "conceptualize", "think", and show why AI does not do it.

A theory about life in general is: we are just a set of billions of molecules working together mechanically.

Perhaps we are more efficient to "understand", "conceptualize", "think" than a probabilistic model, but... do not we, all the time, replicate and generate what, statistically and most likely, matches a situation?

@Gargron I'm the last person to approve current actions of the US administration, but deeply disappointed with such a rage-bait take.

It is inhumane to compare suffering of millions of Ukrainians protecting their democratic country, with millions dead or injured, and tens of millions displaced, that endures everyday bombardment of critical infrastructure in the middle of the winter with targeted attack on military objects by US in Venezuela, a country that was already under EU sanction list

I find this an overreaction. We should surely monitor how this works out and be cautious about the output (just like results proposed by CV), but a recommendation to delete accounts, just because iNat is cautiously trying something that you don't agree with feels like something that does more harm than benefit.

@sunguramy

"In case there is any confusion, AI-generated images are not acceptable on iNaturalist as an evidence-based platform. There are now more robust guidelines and tools to make it easier to flag and remove AI-generated images from the platform."

I think deleting the platform is going overboard. They already use AI suggestions. This sounds like they are adding description aids. If you don't like the suggestions, just don't use them.

Too early for this.

@DenisCOVIDinfoguy basic misunderstanding. Viruses do not have intent, they do not "try" to kill you.
