Eugen RochkoI've changed quite a few parts on joinmastodon.org/servers today in response to the feedback from the past week. In detail:
You can now filter by region, type of legal entity, and sign-up speed. Added note about why the topics filter exists. Changed tagline.
"Get on waitlist" has become "Apply for an account" for servers that manually review new sign-ups. Removed total user count from cards.
Pictures and videos should now be loading fast again on mastodon.social. The load balancer was hitting the limits of its hardware too so I had to upgrade it #devops
Hey, so, we've hit 1,028,362 monthly active users across the network today. 1,124 new Mastodon servers since Oct 27, and 489,003 new users. That's pretty cool.
Hey! Spent all day (technically night) fixing delayed feeds on mastodon.social and mastodon.online, both are back to normal now, I had to add more capacity. There's just so much more activity during peak hours, even with closed registrations! #devops
Bek McWhirterHello! Time for an #introduction I think. I'm Bek, a senior lecturer in #healthlaw and #bioethics, which means I teach ethics and law to med students. I'm at Deakin Uni, but based in beautiful nipaluna/Hobart, under the mountain. Before law, I was a researcher in genetic epi, with a particular interest in Indigenous health and health equity. Now I work mostly on ethical and legal issues in genomics (esp Indigenous genomics) and governance of research ethics. Moving to mastodon feels like moving from SPSS to R... friendly vibes all round.

I can't use Thunderbird anymore, and I've used the forums to no avail. I get a message 'Thunderbird is already running but not responding..." when it hasn't been used for months now. I've downloaded updates to no avail, same message. Win 10 user here - please help.
