- thanks to local radio news signing off with, "dari sungai hingga ke segara, Palestin pasti merdeka," an old word for the sea, that shares a root with negara (country), has become mainstream. Always left me curious because it's just another example how the oceanfaring cultural mindset left the Malay language with the understanding that a homeland is both land and water.
