I had an interview on local radio today about Twitter where I also discuss mastodon and whether I think it could replace Twitter. Not my best interview as I had a fussy baby on my lap and am sleep deprived but baby Alex also made his radio debut! lol https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p0d6qmcx 2h08 in

Some of my new friends here might be interested in the paper I just published where I used the ACM Code of Ethics (which I helped rewrite in 2018) to critically ethically analyse Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs). I would like to think it’s fairly accessible to general academic audiences! It’s also open access.

@cfiesler @jesperdramsch I agree about small communities being easier to keep civil but even in its earlier smaller days Mastodon had a lot of challenges with it. The Battle of Wil Wheaton in 2018 was one high-profile example (and also an illustration that the lack of QTs doesn't prevent dogpiling)

Twitter rival Mastodon isn’t safe from online mobs either

The mass reporting and suspension of actor Wil Wheaton prompts the open-source platform to examine its moderation tools.

Pricing out my own private mastodon server is going to cost less than renting that blue check.

Researchers in digital technologies, law, policy and society in the Fediverse/Mastodon, fill in the form to add your handle to the spreadsheet, and consult the results to see if there are people you'd like to follow! (Inspired by @konrad's effort to gather historians)

Form: https://forms.office.com/r/mPLptbqccP

(I tried to host the form on my NextCloud server in federated spirit, but forms there don't support sharing results live yet).

I used to be a spicy takes kinda gal over on Twitter, but I hope to leave that there for the most part and build on the collaboration and discussion aspect that I love about #AcademicTwitter here - #AcademicMastodon? :)

I live in the UK and have a 3 year old and a 3 month old so I'm also repping the #AcademicMum #AcademicMom crew

Anyway always up for a chat about ethics and tech!

* Ethics of Creative AI - book chapter finished and waiting for publication!
* ACM Committee on Professional Ethics where I am the incoming Vice-Chair - in 2018 I helped rewrite the ACM Code of Ethics so am involved in outreach and support of that
* general emerging tech stuff, I tend to get annoyed with something and then write a paper on it e.g. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2666659621000032 which I wrote with @anthropunk when we got cross with FB/Meta.

You can see my publications here: https://scholar.google.com/citations?hl=en&user=vB3wHkRNMgQJ

Current projects (on hiatus due to maternity leave though, for the most part) include:
* Future Virtual Economies, where I am working with a group of scholars to understand how and why people play video games using data from Unity
* Ethics of cryptocurrencies, blockchain tech, and NFTs - just published a paper on this https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2666659622000312
* Responsible Research in video games - working with the IGGI Centre for Doctoral Training programme to develop a framework for #RRI in games research
