Horizon Europe funded project.

Our goal is to improve the capability of autonomous robots to understand their open environments and complex missions, leading to improved flexibility, resilience, and explainability.

On 6 May, #CoreSense and ULTIMATE will hold a joint technical workshop at TECNALIA’s site in Bilbao, Spain, focusing on understanding, awareness, explainability and trust in AI and robotic systems.

Beyond presentations, the focus is a round‑table discussion on:
– what “understanding” really means in AI and robotics
– how theory survives contact with real software architectures
– how trust is validated beyond benchmarks

More updates to come!

The #HRI2026 is taking place this week in Edinburgh under the theme “HRI Empowering Society".

#Coresense has been showcased through the paper “How Do Humans Attempt to Initiate Interaction with a Robot? An Exploratory Study on Multimodal Engagement.”

The study examines how people naturally initiate interactions with robots, analysing multimodal cues and behaviours that can inform more intuitive, human‑centred interaction strategies.

#Coresense latest conference papers prested by our partner URJC:

🟣 Environmental Sound Recognition for Social Robots — real‑time system that detects, localises & categorises indoor sounds to help robots react safely and intelligently.

🟣 On‑Edge Task Planning with LLMs — lightweight ROS 2 module that generates action plans onboard the robot using LLMs, boosting autonomy in dynamic environments.

“Mission‑oriented understanding means a robot can interpret what is happening, anticipate what could happen next, and evaluate options in terms of mission goals.”

Great energy at the IEEE RAS Satellite Event in Mullingar! From mission‑level reasoning to real‑world navigation demos, and a lab tour featuring Coresense prototypes, the day showcased how the project is advancing autonomous robotics.

That's a wrap! Irish Manufacturing Research’s satellite event “Robotics, Digitalisation and the Future of Manufacturing” in Mullingar has just finished. Proud to see our team members Carlos and Francisco showcasing #Coresense and contributing to important discussions on the future of manufacturing and automation.

On my way to Mullingar (Ireland) to give an invited keynote in an IEEE event related to @CORESENSE_EU 🤓

A short trip, because I have to return for my classes on Friday, and classes are sacred @urjc 😉

Proad to be featured at Irish Manufacturing Research’s satellite event on 19 February, where Carlos García Santiago and Francisco Martín Rico will present our latest work in AI and robotics navigation.

Our partner URJC travelled to Brussels to attend #FOSDEM 2026.

The team took part in the devroom to present #EasyNav, an open‑source navigation framework that forms part of the #Coresense technology ecosystem.

Our partner IMR hosted an excellent event last week, giving attendees the chance to connect, gain valuable insights, and get hands-on experience with key industry innovations.

As visitors walked through the space, #Coresense team took the opportunity to chat about the project and showcase the testbed.

URJC recently represented #Coresense at #ROSCon2025 in Singapore and Barcelona.

URJC’s contributions included:

◾ Participating in ZettScale’s workshop on Zenoh, the new ROS 2 RMW
◾ Presenting the talk “ROS 2 Planning System: Past, Present, and Future”.
◾ Delivering a hands-on workshop on EasyNav, the flexible navigation framework whose cognitive plugins are being developed within the Coresense project.
