Whether you pronounce it neesh or nitch, everyone's got niche interests.

Most any shop you visit will have a selection of books related to their niche, attitude, or inspiration. It's a good fit. Square block goes in square hole.

A well-rounded bookstore represents every niche. Squares, Rounds, Triangles, Stars, and so on. Spend enough time there and you'll notice a magic. Sometimes, the blocks & holes can fit one another, even when they don't match. Choose the niche that fits you best.

What's in store for the new year? The best way to find out is to stop in the store! Mine, if you're in Dayton, OH. Or, any locally owned small businesses near you!

Tonight, for the first time since I entered the fedi [How long has it been?], evangelizing this form of internet on mainstream platforms, sharing links, posting occasional teasers to try and lure in the fomo; I talked about it face-to-face with someone who was genuinely curious.

I'm no influencer and, in the end, I don't feel I was able to entice him to join in. He doesn't participate on mainstream social platforms but does visit reddit. Maybe he'll look at lemmy or mbin. *shrug*

When social networks went mainstream in 2003, they were initially positioned as dating apps — both Friendster and its copycat MySpace had online dating vibes (later that year, Mark Zuckerberg would use the "hot or not" format in Facemash...but that's another, creepier, story!). Here's a look back at MySpace vs. Friendster in 2003, and why the web's 'view source' philosophy was key to MySpace winning. https://cybercultural.com/p/myspace-2003/ #InternetHistory #SocialNetworks
2003: MySpace vs. Friendster in a Battle for Digital Natives

Social networking becomes a trend in 2003, thanks largely to Friendster and a copycat called MySpace. But only one of these sites attracts the newly influential 'digital native' users of the internet.

Ads are already an assault on our time and autonomy at the best of times, but this story is even more messed up.

Anyone hiring a frontend developer in Canada? Circumstances have led me to start looking for my next job sooner than I would have liked.

I excel at working on design systems, cultivating a frontend culture, building with the grain of the web, and creating inclusive user experiences. Reach out if you need help with any of these!

I have deep knowledge of the web fundamentals (HTML/ARIA, CSS, JS) and the frontend ecosystem at large (build tools, frameworks, design tools).
