@juliakamin Thanks...Metaphors R Us. Occurred to me when I saw a Brit react to a toxic post: Oh, sod it!
@BobQuinn offers a new metaphor for how to go "beyond moderation" and restore social media: good lawn care. Instead of only weeding out the bad we should focus on feeding the prosocial grass; toxicity can't flourish (as well) when healthy engagement thrives.
@tzimmer_history If you want to achieve social justice goals, what viable alternative does our electoral / legislative structure allow but lowering partisan temps to the point where at least some on 'the other side' will listen to you? Structural hurdles were lower when I chose the protest route and stumped for McGovern on cold New Hampshire evenings. Now, it seems to me one needs to be more strategic in crafting solutions. But I definitely want to listen to your side on this...
@cfiesler Yikes.
@kevinctofel At time of this video, IBM figured out 'expert systems' needed a decision tree 'logic' option, bypassing 'inference engines' for efficiency. Systems still labeled 'AI' tho. Awkward to admit I built a few for them.

Old on the planet but living in hope. But yes, including 'civil' may have been a tactical error....

Question: Where (specific searches on any platform) can one find examples of sensible, mostly civil dialog between individuals on the left and right on policy issues and/or social/cultural topics? Looking for the most cogent arguments in a few of the hot debates. Thanks! #polysci #politicalscience #politicalpolarization #socialpsychology

Hurt us if you have to; just don’t help them!!

New study finds “that individuals prefer to harm their own group rather than provide even minimal support to an opposing group across polarized issues (abortion access, political party, gun rights).”

“Individuals believe that supporting an opposing group is less value-compatible than harming their own group.”
