Review of Chuck Person’s Eccojams Vol. 1 by bluegambit86 - Musicboard

Review of Chuck Person’s Eccojams Vol. 1 by Oneohtrix Point Never. bluegambit86 rated the album 2.5 / 5 stars. Dreamy remixes of existing songs where things are slowed right down. A full album of this isn’t really appealing to me. I’m not generally a fan of remixes, but appreciate this is doing more than just putting things in different orders: the tempo is often slowed and pitch is impacted which can change...

Review of Adore (2014 Remaster) by bluegambit86 - Musicboard

Review of Adore (2014 Remaster) by The Smashing Pumpkins. bluegambit86 rated the album 4.0 / 5 stars. Billy Corgan’s big step away from the classic distorted sound that made Smashing Pumpkins the beloved band they were in the early-mid 90’s. Electronics are the order of the day and the band are almost unrecognisable from what came before. I say almost, Ava Adore is the one song that’s still drippin...

Review of A Christmas Carol by bluegambit86 - Musicboard

Review of A Christmas Carol by Majestica. bluegambit86 rated the album 4.0 / 5 stars. Symphonic metal set to a Christmas tale - two things that on paper probably don’t match up but when you try it, works wonderfully. The metal spin adds heightened drama and urgency to the story being told, but the traditional style of festive music remains. Going too much in one direction wouldn’t w...

Review of A Brand New Morning by bluegambit86 - Musicboard

Laid back music to enjoy in the sun. There’s always something new the next day, what you do with that is up to you. Songs that often sound like atmospheric thoughts creeping out into the open, after having pressed through small psychedelic filters first. There are also 1960’s West Coast American style images in the record, with some excellent use of brass spread through the album too. Playlist: Rise and Shine Beyond This Life - Part Two

Review of Bill Haley's Chicks by bluegambit86 - Musicboard

Another record from Bill Haley where he follows the same formulas as his previous records. And then Skinny Minnie, a dramatic change in his usual finger clicking, thigh slapping style to being in something with a genuinely different sound for the time. After Skinny Minnie things take bit of a dip - again file under “for collectors only” 4.5/10

The Clovers have never sounded tighter. The record isn’t to my tastes but can definitely be appreciated

If everyone who follows me donated $5 we could get an Iron Maiden pinball machine but I’ll keep it here. You’re welcome to come play but I’ll need a couple days notice to tidy up and find some pants.
Review of Mr. Personality by bluegambit86 - Musicboard

Lloyd Price’s name is a big one in early rock n roll circles. From first listening to this album it can sound a bit strange to connect the two however there are links here. Price’s personality is all over the recordings, mixing confidence and earnest anxieties with his band providing mood changing backdrops. My issue is that the songs themselves aren’t really interesting me. I’ve not got the ear for this type of band music, and my interest doesn...

Review of House Of The Blues by bluegambit86 - Musicboard

A collection of songs released by John Lee Hooker in the early 50’s. A lot of these songs feel like a stepping stone from traditional blues hooks towards the field of rock and roll. The album sounds terrific, Hooker’s voice matches the music perfectly. Simply, a great compilation worthy of any record collection 8/10
