I think the reason I don't care about purity test discussions at this point is because we all have our homework right now and some of it is contradictory but still has to be done. Like, folks who are politically enfranchised and connected need to do that work even though it's clear that work won't get us there. But if they give up or stop, that's a front of the war abandoned and I don't think we have enough information to abandon any fronts.

Meanwhile, those of us in groups who are frequently excluded by design and history from power are gonna do what we've done for centuries now, and rely on old systems of resistance and disobedience and subterfuge while we build new systems or repair old and broken ones, completely invisible to existing power structures lest they be destroyed.

As far as I'm concerned, the targets of fascism, white supremacy, empire, and capitalism have been consistent for five hundred years or more: queer people (including always trans people), Indigenous people, women, disabled people, Black people, Brown people, the immigrant, the foreigner the stranger, the religious minority, the young, and the old.

To sacrifice any of these is to surrender to fascism, end of. There is no victory against fascism that does not protect all of these people. It's not purity, it's pragmatism. These people are the breadth of humanity, they are targeted by fascism because they are the anti-purity: they are the diversity of our beautiful, amazing species within the tapestry of life itself.

It's not "purity" to say no terfs - it's the terfs themselves who want to exclude first. It's not "purity" to center Black lives, or to be put off by fascist symbols, it's not purity to ask folks to mask up at meetings or to hold events that are wheelchair accessible, or to always, always, every time, each and every time to resist fascism: it's what the whole thing is about.

In truth, I think it's mainly only a sliver of helpless white guys just waking up who are still worried about purity testing. I have a hunch the rest of the world is too busy *doing stuff* right now to pick up that dusty old discourse again.
