A whole world of physics in your coffee mug: The science in your cup along with cafe-physics reviews for cafes I have tried + like.

Mostly based physically in London, UK. Coffee physics however can be found anywhere you have some curiosity and a coffee mug.

So much #physics here before we even start drinking the #coffee - an oat milk flat white at Elsewhere Coffee in Deptford. There are details of bubble ripening, light scattering, rock formation and reflection.

What else do you see?
Also, the coffee was very good.

Not quite coffee... this was a drink called "summer magic" at Puck Coffee in Kuala Lumpur (it was way too hot in the afternoon for a hot filter brew). Lemon/lime juice with pea flower water on top.

Think of the physics in here! Diffusion, colour, ice & density. What science do you see?

A #coffee in a new cafe provided plenty of #coffeephysics - from the white mists (barely visible in photo) to the condensation around the #V60 jug... the physics here goes from levitation to the greenhouse effect.

An Oat Milk Flat White at Books & Coffee in Bordeaux.

Amusing to see, lovely to taste, but is it art, physics, chemistry or all of the above?

Have a good weekend, I hope you see some great #coffeephysics

A good way to start the morning!

We each enjoyed an oat-milk flat white #coffee at this cafe which will feature in a cafe-physics review soon...

In school #science we were taught when ice was stirred with water, we could be confident the mixture was at 0C.

The #affogato could be a mixture to be studied..... or (as was the case), it was a lovely #coffee dessert to be enjoyed!

I have sometimes wondered how good these one-way air valves were on bags of freshly #Roasted #Coffee

I packed this #PapaPalheta bag of #CoffeeBeans in the hold of a long-haul flight back from #Singapore and found a clue to the answer.... the low pressure caused the air to escape the bag but then, when the bag was returned into normal atmospheric pressure, the one-way valve did not appear to let the air back in.

Surprisingly effective!

Happy New Year!

And how better to start the year than in style.... "Slow Coffee Style".

(Found at the end of a V60 at the end of 2023... a message to 2024)
#coffee

A mistake meant that the water in the tea-pot was cold (!! 😮 - poorly brewed tea!) - but when the mistake was rectified & hot #tea was eventually poured into the cool cup, the convection in the liquid resulted in a good display of the light refracted around different portions of the internally moving fluid.

An oat milk #FlatWhite at VCR in Kuala Lumpur provided a welcome pause in the morning.

With reflections, bubbles, the grain of the wood and the behaviour of the digital camera used to capture the image, there was plenty of #physics to consider - even before sipping the #coffee

What #science did you notice last time you took some time out with your coffee?
