Video Showed an Officer Trying to Stop His Partner From Killing a Man.

Now We Know Police Investigators Never Even Asked About the Footage.

We obtained the NYPD’s full investigation into the killing of Kawaski Trawick, including documents and audio of interviews with the officers.

The records provide a rare window into how exactly a police department examines its own after a shooting.

Galactic collisions result in a billion-year gravitational dance, as shown in this captivating supercomputer simulation. The simulation depicts the collision of two spiral galaxies and is complemented by actual images of galactic collisions at various stages captured by Hubble.

NASA Scientific Visualization Studio - Galaxy Collisions: Simulation vs Observations

Galaxies are vast swarms of billions of stars along with huge interstellar clouds of gas and dust. A spiral galaxy has a broad, thin disk shape, with a bulge of stars in its core, Within the disk are winding arms of dark dust lanes and bright star-forming regions, This structure is stable when left alone, but is relatively easily disturbed when another galaxy passes near. Astronomers have studied galaxy interactions for decades, and Hubble s keen vision has been particularly useful for examining new details.A 2008 Hubble press release unveiled 59 images of galaxy interactions. Each image, however, captures only one moment in a billion-year-long collision process. This visualization of a galaxy collision supercomputer simulation shows the entire collision sequence, and compares the different stages of the collision to different interacting galaxy pairs observed by Hubble. The two spiral galaxies in the simulation distort, twist, and merge together, matching different images at different times and different viewing angles. With this combination of research simulations and high resolution observations, these titanic crashes can be better illustrated and understood. Weirdly, Mario is canonically Muslim, as evidenced from these pictures Nintendo released in 1996 as part of a set of quiz cards.

Salam alaikum, Mario.

So I've just set up an account on calckey.social, and will shortly be migrating my followers from Masto. Devs will soon be adding the functionality to import content archives, making the process of migrating from Masto - while still being able to use it from your Calckey account! - seamless. Thank you to @atomicpoet for being such an effective evangelist for Calckey. It's looking super-slick so far, even only using the web app on a phone.

One of the things that made Twitter so powerful was its ability to amplify calls for grassroots activism— it's time to see if Mastodon can deliver the goods, too: if you want to help send the message that fascists should not be given a national platform to spew their hateful rhetoric: open Apple News (or your Android equivalent) and block the *CNN Politics* channel

“There is no joy more intense than that of coming upon a fact that cannot be understood in terms of currently accepted ideas."

Astronomer Cecilia Payne-Gaposchkin was born #OTD in 1900. She used quantum mechanics to decode the spectral lines of stars and deduce their elemental composition, concluding they are mostly H and He, and was the first woman to be made full professor and department chair at Harvard.

For people still on the “Democrats suck at messaging train”, please read this article. Dan Pfeiffer knows more than you.

Then look at the fact that CNN is giving Donald Trump a huge platform. Then look at how the legacy media carries Republican messaging around every day. On the economy, on crime, on human rights.

Then try and do better. I’m usually a nicer person, but enjoy a block if this is too hard for you.

Why Do Democrats Suck at Messaging?

It’s a question Dan Pfeiffer, the former Obama communications director and Pod Save America cohost, recalls getting many times. In his new book, Battling the Big Lie, Pfeiffer diagnoses the party’s messaging troubles—and calls for building a bigger megaphone.

Vanity Fair
It has been proven repeatedly that platforms prioritizing growth over safety are toxic to everyone else who doesn't present as white, straight, and a man.

No, I'm not going to debate it anymore. No, I don't care if people think I'm wrong to center safety in my dev efforts because I can live with it going sideways if that happens.

But in my experience as a dev and a citizen of the web for more than two decades, the missing link to rehumanizing social media spaces is safety for the most marginalized people that have historically been ignored.

And I'm going to create around that ethos.
