#Peatland paper is out! 🎉
Our study about microbial potential for aerobic/anaerobic oxidation of #methane in a pristine European #peatland is now published in FEMS Microbiology Ecology 🥳

Led by my colleagues Justus A. Nweze and @AnneDaebeler.

Regulators of aerobic and anaerobic methane oxidation in two pristine temperate peatland types

Abstract. Despite covering less than 5% of Earth's terrestrial area, peatlands are crucial for global carbon storage and are hot spots of methane cycling.

Happy to see release of draft genomes of methanotrophs from pictured eutrophic fishpond in Czechia. Available in an announcement prepared by my colleagues Magda Wutkowska and @AnneDaebeler.

What do the authors suggest?

“If every hiring / promotion decision were based on reviewing a SMALL number of publications chosen by candidates, scientists would spend more time on each project, join fewer large teams in small roles, & spend less time taking professional selfies”

I am very pleased to announce that Akos Kovacs @EvolvedBiofilm will join @LeidenBiology as Professor of Microbiome Ecology, as of 1 July 2023. He is a world-leading expert on biofilms and will complement our expertise in host-microbe interactions. Welcome to @LeidenScience Akos!

My article about microbial aspect of deadwood decomposition is in current issue of Czech science magazine #Vesmir

https://vesmir.cz/cz/casopis/archiv-casopisu/2023/cislo-1/mikroobyvatele-odumrelych-stromu.html

It contains summary of research done mostly in temperate natural forest called Zofin in Central Europe.

Important meeting for all scientists: Recognizing Preprint Peer Review December 1 - 2, 2022
you can watch the live stream: https://www.janelia.org/you-janelia/conferences/recognizing-preprint-peer-review

with HHMI, ASAPbio, EMBO, the goals are to promote community consensus & support for preprint peer review & to create funder, institutional, and journal policies that recognize both preprints with reviews, and reviews of preprints

PCI will talk twice: recognition and relationships with journals
+ panel on peer-review service business model
