Sirens warned of flooding in small Texas community where all survived
Officials at the Comfort Volunteer Fire Department triggered a flood warning siren last week when the Guadalupe River began to swell. If residents in the more than 2,200-person unincorporated community hadn't seen weather alerts on their phones, or heard firefighters who went to each street yelling for people to begin evacuating, they had been trained to know the sirens meant they needed to leave immediately. The department and the community cobbled together funding to install a flood warning system by refurbishing their old firehouse siren and applying for grants and other funding to install a river sensor gauge. Everyone in Comfort survived the July Fourth flooding.
