New books! Nothing completes Christmas like settling in to read a new book by the tree.

As a book editor, I'm happy with a behind-the-scenes role. It's nice when I'm listed in the acknowledgments—that makes me feel extra appreciated. But it's okay if I'm not mentioned.

This time, I'm listed as an editor on Amazon! 🤯😁

It was a delight to work with Daryl on "Coming Clean." The book itself left me feeling inspired, and I think it will do the same for readers. I'll post about it again after its Jan. 18 release date. In the meantime, it's available for preorder!

Grammarly knows I use American English... yet they think my American spelling is incorrect.

One more reason not to rely on software to fix your spelling.

Ah well. It's not as though I've ever trusted Grammarly's suggestions. I use their browser extension to flag potential issues in my emails and posts... and then I ignore their suggestions half the time. It's a functional system.

I just started “Seven Drafts: Self-Edit Like a Pro from Blank Page to Book” by Allison K. Williams. This book was recommended for my future coaching clients.

Two pages in, I already see an important tip:

“If you're worried, that's a good sign. The Dunning-Kruger effect helpfully covers this: the more competent someone is at a particular skill, the more self-critical they're likely to be. The less someone knows about a skill, the better they think they are at doing it.”

Not every editor is a fit for every author, and that’s okay! Editors and authors learn to screen each other. But when you are a good fit? Both parties walk away encouraged and satisfied.

I enjoyed working with Brian on "Go Upstream," and I recommend his book to anyone who'd like to help foster youth.

If you can open a window, I recommend it. If you’re able to go outside and walk, I recommend it.

I’ve been in a funk. Walking helped a bit. Turns out that going outside is better for health and productivity than doomscrolling. Who knew?

Singing like it’s 2008 as I drive today.

I must have been 14 or 15 when I burned this CD. It’s like a time capsule.

More Jonas Brothers songs than anything else, of course. I’m still a fan today.

Can you guess which Little Mermaid song I included? I’d forgotten, and I was amused when it came on.

(“Success” is written on the side because this was at least my second attempt at burning the mix. I can’t remember what went wrong the first time.)

I posted about pancakes a while back and feel I must update the world on what Mom called the best pancakes ever. I admit they’re better than chocolate chip pancakes, but also too different to compare. Add-ins (to Kodiak’s high-protein buttermilk pancake mix, made with eggs and milk):

- walnuts (thanks, Mastodon)
- honeycrisp apple (“cut” with a peeler for thin strips, as well as a knife for slightly bigger chunks)
- blueberries
- cinnamon
- nutmeg (Dad’s suggestion)

“It should only be another 10 minutes,” said our pilot, for the third time since we’d pulled away from the gate.

I checked the airline’s app, where our ETA approached my next flight’s ETD.

My layover was supposed to be 45 min. Plenty of time—if my first plane wasn't 45 min late.

What are my options? I asked a kind employee at the airport, hoping for vouchers.

She gave me a blanket, a pillow, chips, and tips for where to sleep.

There are worse fates than sleeping by a big Christmas tree.

Eeep!

I'm delighted to finally hold Melanie Dobson's "War of Roses" in my hands.

Melanie sent a signed copy to me last month—but I've been out of state. When I found the book in my workspace this morning (thank you, Housemate!), I actually squealed.

I loved editing "War of Roses," and I look forward to Katie's future adventures with her fairy friends. 🧚🏻‍♀️🦋🧚🏽‍♂️
