@jakalopes I had actually planned to pull out my Audubon guide to see if I could identify them more accurately, but I got sidetracked. If the mustache is a giveaway for males then this is just a group of dudes being dudes and napping together. They visit all the flowers and plants in the yard, but seem to be particularly fond of napping in the basil patch and occasionally on the zinnias. Napping is the only time I could manage to get macro shots like this of them. 😅

Just a bunch of beesy bodies. Except these bees were mostly all busy taking naps before starting their big day in the basil patch.

A few more from my recent trip into the forest.

Snow Mushroom (Tremella fuciformis)

Edit: some form of pinwheel mushroom? Possibly Marasmius Rotula.

Viscid Violet Cort (Cortinarius iodes)

and an unidentified little cute mushroom couple. I'm going to page through the Audubon field guide.

Reject this malformed monetary-based modernity that we’ve allowed to be born and chained on top of us. Empathy, kindness, and love will all be taught to future generations as acts of terrorism if we don’t begin to push for something brighter.

“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not.”

-Dr. Seuss, The Lorax

Whatever part we can do, as individuals, will ripple out and affect our neighbors, our neighborhoods, our towns, cities, and eventually the greater whole. Plant a flower. Destroy your barren lawn. Pick up trash anywhere you spot it. Bring a home-cooked meal to a neighbor. Build shelters for the stray animals. Always stop to pat a mushroom and to congratulate the bees on a life well lived.

13/?

We need to fuel the growth and support of the selfless again. Push against news coverage that lends eyes and ears to the decay of a dying society and spend our time and money solely towards the true strength and spirit of humankind.

12/?

The world that future generations are growing up in is filled with bickering, scornful, hateful, selfish, and vindictive characters. The adults teaching young boys what it means to be a man, or to be masculine, are predators at their core. They are the rapists, abusers, adulterers, and the manipulative narcissists.

11/?

The next Generations can go back and watch episodes of Mr Rogers. They can witness the foods and cultures on the travels of Bourdain. They can sit at the feet of Thích, or listen to the voices of Attenborough, Goodall, or Ross, but it will always be a secondhand experience of history.

10/?

Monk Thích Nhất Hạnh taught me that all of these people, these titans of culture, of environmentalism, of social growth, will die, or have died, but that we can’t lose them anymore than we would say the water is lost when a wave emerges, crests, and finally returns into the ocean.
