A late #PhallusThursday because Mastodon was a bit buggy yesterday.

This man has the DIY attitude and a large tool to go with it!

I went to see an exhibition in #Hamburg today advertised as "from Herakles to Superman". I foolishly assumed there would be some discussion of the elements that make a modern hero vs the ancient Greek heros, similarities & differences between Greek heroes & US-American superheroes, and how heroes reflect society. But the exhibitors decided to make 1 room about US superheroes and 1 room about Greek gods and call it a day. No context. No discussion. And even AI generated images. WTF was the point?
Happy Easter to all who celebrate. I was at a bonfire yesterday, a tradition in my home area. The bonfires are supposed to burn away winter and scare off evil spirits and potentially also witches. This fire looks very much like a witch's hat ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Happy #TransDayOfVisibility to all who celebrate ๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€โšง๏ธ

I am grateful for all the trans folks who stand visible, who talk openly about their experiences and life despite the danger to themselves. Your voices are so important because I don't think the imagination of cis people (even well-meaning) can truly capture the struggles and the joys of trans lives. I promise to stand beside you and speak up whenever I witness transphobia. Stay awesome!

I enjoyed a really fun writing workshop with @catrinity and @[email protected] on the theme of female rage in contemporary and fantasy fiction. I am not a literary scholar, so the analyses by workshop hosts Lena and Simonรฉ gave me greater insight into the differences of female rage in these two broad genres and I got a new book out of it too ๐Ÿ“–

Are these gaming pieces or locker room tokens at the Roman baths?

The term "spintria" to describe these erotic, coin-like tokens is a modern term from scholarship. We don't know what the Romans called them. In #ancientRome, a spintria was a male prostitute.

Happy #Equinox to all who celebrate! โ˜€๏ธ
One quarter of the year is already gone, time really flies. But here in the Northern hemisphere, Spring is finally here ๐ŸŒฑ
The days are getting longer and it is time for Spring cleaning, planting seeds, and enjoy the first seasonal produce. It's a good opportunity to review your goals for the year to plant seeds for success!
My family and I are gifting each other "recyklapp", things we own and we like, but don't really use. How are you celebrating?

Hermes agreed and opened the door to Herse's chamber with his caduceus. When Aglauros wanted to rise in protest, she couldn't. She fought to raise herself up and straighten her body, but to no avail: rock was already taking hold of her throat, her mouth was growing hard, until she sat there, nothing but a bloodless statue.

The myth is told by #Ovid, in Metamorphoses, 2, ll. 711โ€“832

This week's #MythologyMonday theme is stones and gems. In #GreekMythology, Hermes turned a woman into stone for cock-blocking him:
Hermes spotted the Athenian maiden Herse on his way home and without disguise came to her house. Herse's sister, Aglauros, asked him who he was and when he introduced himself as the son of Zeus, Aglauros demanded a huge sum of gold for letting him shag her sister and sat down opposite Herse's chamber.
"I will not move from here until you leave," she said.
