If your plots are getting tangled and your characters are falling flat then your readers won't have a good time. You want the best book possible! A developmental edit will give you the tools you need to free your fantasy novel of inconsistencies and strengthen your writing style. By the end, you will be saying "Yes! I’ve got it in my head that I’m capable of running 26.2 miles. Running has done so much for me over the last year.

In October, I will be running the Yorkshire Marathon and I will be raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support while I train. 98% of Macmillan's funding comes from people like you who donate to campaigns just like this one. My fundraising goal is £450.

Book Review - Labyrinth by Kate Mosse

What do you think about switching POV midway through a chapter? Labyrinth by Kate Mosse uses POV and its massive cast creatively to position you in the most relevant moment in each scene. Is this something you should try? This review may contain some spoilers! I want to see the brilliance behind the POV switches in Labyrinth. I believe all writing rules can be broken in a way that creates a powerful story. There were certainly instances where an abrupt change in POV worked. The common thread wit

I enjoy reading books that aren’t my typical taste to see why so many other people love them so much. A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas is one of these. What can writers learn about genre and plot beats.

Book Review - A Court of Thorns and Roses

I enjoy reading books that aren’t my typical taste to see why so many other people love them so much. A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas is one of these. What can writers learn about genre and plot beats. There are major spoilers ahead. It is worth noting at the top that the ACOTAR series is incredibly popular. One of the things that drew me to reading this is that suddenly I am having book chats with people who wouldn’t normally consider themselves a reader! Maas is good at what she do

Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin is a brilliant example of how you can use an unreliable narrator to your advantage in your writing.

Book Review - Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin

Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin is a brilliant example of how you can use an unreliable narrator to your advantage in your writing. This review contains spoilers! There are many story building elements in this novel that I could have picked out, but the unreliable narration is so core to how the story unfolds that it would be silly not to explore it. Tomorrow is told from the perspective of two friends, Sam and Sadie. Zevin uses this structure to pick over details that read

AJ Editorial Services is four years old! I can’t believe how far I have come. 2024 was my most successful business year so far by every metric.

My favourite metric is enjoyment. I made a list of every book I have worked on in the last 12 months and worked out I had a whopping 85% enjoyment rate.

If the coming year very simply holds more of the same, the same incredible authors and the same amazing community of editors around me, then I would be delighted.

My approach to New Year’s resolutions is unsustainably maximalist. I refuse to do anything to rectify this. I will only ever dream big and see what happens! But rather than throwing my never ending list of silly thoughts at you (one item on the list is literally just “wear perfume more”), I’ve picked three to share with you.

My last goal is cheating a bit since I already have some excellent manuscripts booked in!

Book post! It was actually my husband's order, but I couldn't resist this adorable little book.
