Someone once said: "It's easier to fool people than to convince them that they have been fooled." The quote is usually attributed to Mark Twain, though there's no real evidence to support that. Despite not knowing for sure where it came from, it's still a great quote. Now, it's certainly not something I "live my life by," but it has been on my mind a lot recently.

Does anyone remember renting movies? No, no... I don't mean "renting" a temporary streaming copy. I'm talking about physical movies. And not DVD's or Blu-rays. Like... a VHS tape. Tapes had to be rewound before you could watch them again. You were supposed to rewind your rented videos before returning them to the rental company. And if you didn't, they probably charged you a fee.

Cats are obviously the best pet. When you win the affection of a cat, you have become a god. I'm not really sure what qualifies as the worst type of pet because I have an obnoxious adoration of all animals. If we look at it purely in terms of interactions, however, then fish are probably the strangest. Our environments are just too different.

I like the heat… Weekly Recap 3/23/2026

I'm the kind of guy that likes getting into a hot car during the summer. I like hot showers. I like saunas. I like hot tubs. And I like hot, sunny days at the beach. So all this weirdness that we're having right now in Florida—where its hanging out in the 60s or low 70s—that's not my jam, man. Hand me my jacket.

Ad astra per aspera… Weekly Recap 3/16/2026

I have this fantasy... ...have I talked about it before? Selene and I acquire an RV. We then travel across the country in a leisurely fashion, taking detours when we feel compelled and setting up camp in interesting locations each evening. There's other ways to go cross-country, sure. Cars are too cramped. Busses are too slow. Trains are nice, but skip too many interesting places.

Am I superstitious? You tell me. A few weeks ago, it seemed as if water was leaking through the light fixture in our kitchen ceiling. And by "seemed," I mean... well, it did. It dripped on my wife. We just couldn't really come up for any explanation as to why it happened. There's a bathroom above the kitchen, sure. That's certainly a likely cause.
