Our adventures in having a passover seder in Spain have yielded some great moments. No matzo, but our Colombian asistente understood the assignment and made unleavened arepas (BRILLIANT). Sephardic haroset beats ashkenazi haroset by a mile. And this is the year our kids held us to 4 entire cups of grapes juice so things got pretty crazy. (They also negociated like sharks once they found the afikomen). All in all? BEST SEDER EVER

When that break the fast Slivovitz hits
I'm 46 years old!! Went to Auga Restaurant in Gijón to celebrate.
I used to fear going out to eat by myself like I used to get embarrassed going to the movies alone. Now there are times when I prefer both.
The lesson is clear. When you are in Spain always order the salad. I assure you it will not be healthy.
I love it here. Lunch is a 3-course meal with a bottle of (amazing) wine and coffees for 15€ per person full stop.

#Asturias the cider (
#sidra) is famous. The cider is poured traditionally to add effervescence to the liquid just before drinking. You don't sip on this bad boy, you drink what's poured, and the rest is tossed out before the next pour. What does it taste like? Dry, and like a sour ale. If poured correctly it takes on more complexity and I think the apple flavors come through a lot better.
In her final years, Darby spent her days snuggled up with Swamp Ape in a heated bed. She grew very affectionate with me, she probably felt bad about slowly strangling me to death with her dander. Or maybe she just loved me as much as I loved her. This is a sad day and I'm going to miss her for a long time.
She loved bananas and making clicking sounds at birds through the window, and she liked sucking your finger until you rubbed the top of her nose or scratched her tongue. She slept on my head every single night she could get into our room. I'm allergic to cats but I just didn't care when it came to Darby.
