The fact that you've 90% likely guessed from the title what today's Sunday Sermon is about gives you an idea of how big the problem is and how hard we're trying to ignore it.

First, a little digression. If I asked what the most-viewed sporting event of 2022 was, you'd likely say the World Cup in Qatar.
You'd be wrong. The answer was - as it has been for decades - the Tour de France. Yes, it takes the maillot jaune every time, including in Olympic years.
It isn't the biggest event. It doesn't attract the most sponsorship or TV advertising. It has the most viewers.
A significant part of that number is the millions of people who line the route each day. Take only in-person attendance as your metric, and La Grande Boucle is untouchable.

I write stuff for a living. Never passed โ€œEnglishโ€ at high school (technically I โ€œpassedโ€ but never got over 50%)
