Yes I literally think a lot of you would do better to serve your world and the future by, rather than working on that little tech project you love to sooth your anxieties with, you just like, took a nap, rolled around in the grass, counted how many toes you have until the sun goes down, or just, simply, *didn't*.

And then: see what it is that's preventing you for doing that sort of stuff.

Like literally, try to do nothing, and see what stops you: it'll be little anxieties, feelings, thoughts, that tell you about the world around you, so that your body becomes one of action.

But *sometimes* - can't know when - but SOMETIMES - the right move is going to be to do nothing at all.

Most of y'all have dayjobs that train you to be active bodies reacting to change as quickly and competently as you can.

You get enough practice at "yes," and you get no space for refusal and rest, in most of life. Don't make "always yes" the condition of a good life forever: don't conflate "hope" with "even more yes".

Try and practice some "nopes," with your hope, because a lot of us hope for a chance to say nope, and definitionally this justification of action by crisis forbids that rest.

Juneteenth is neither the beginning nor the end of emancipation. It marks the distance between law and reality. Freedom was proclaimed on January 1, 1863, but more than 250,000 enslaved people in Texas remained in bondage until June 19, 1865. Juneteenth is the story of freedom delayed, resisted, and finally enforced.

Under any past President, Democrat or Republican, no peace deal would ever be signed until they were entirely sure of its solidity.

We don't have a functioning Secretary of State.

We don't have a functioning diplomacy arm of our government.

We are understandably the laughingstock of the world.

Today is #Juneteenth. Many people outside of #Texas haven’t heard of it, even though it is a federal holiday signed by Pres Biden.

Most people will say Juneteenth marks June 19, 1865, the day Union Army General Gordon #Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced General Order No. 3, which freed the last enslaved African Americans.

Technically true, but Granger didn’t free the slaves, they were already free, this was two years *after* the #Emancipation Proclamation. Granger showed up to tell white folks they had to follow the law. Black folks already knew the South had lost, they’d seen the newspapers.

It’s been 161 years since that day. We haven’t made nearly enough progress in equality, have we?

What is Juneteenth?

In this curatorial discussion, museum scholars examine the historical significance of the holiday and how it came to be.

Tomorrow is #Juneteenth, which became a federal holiday in the US in 2021. To repeat my ask from two years ago, if you are getting a paid day off, are not #Black, and have the means, consider donating that day's earnings to a Black-led organization or individual in need.

In the 1940s and 50s, the government tried to eradicate a disfavored ideology and targeted any organization and individual supporting it with investigations in kangaroo courts. Now, it is doing the same with trans people, and WPATH is its latest target. My latest piece on the modern red scare.

The US Government Is Engaged In A Modern Red Scare, And WPATH Is It's Latest Target

From hospital subpoenas to funding threats to suing the organization that advocates for trans healthcare—the parallels to the Red Scare are clear.

Good news! There is now a legal defense fund for the Minnesota 15! This is for all the people Trump's feds arrested on Tuesday for their anti-ICE activism in the Minneapolis / St. Paul area. They have a rough road ahead. Let's show them some support.

I can vouch for this specific fund. It's legit.

⚠️ Keep an eye out for the Chuffed site automatically adding a “tip” that is perhaps larger than the amount you want. You can set it to a smaller amount or zero. ⚠️
