Testing the waters again after a long period of abstention from any form of social media. Starting from scratch to see where things go.
Used to have an active Mastodon account for a while on some indie server years ago, but it vanished without warning and I never picked it back up.

There are non-prof orgs I'm interested in including as a donor (or potential). Occasionally I email some question directly relevant to their field. If I never hear back, then I lose all drive to donate.
If I'm giving an org money & they can't be bothered to respond, I will then send my limited funds somewhere else.
#AITA for expecting a response to legitimate ?s from an organization dedicated to some issue? Those that do respond have a 100% better look to me.

I've come to suspect most companies are data fronts. Not all mind you.
They provide some ostensible service but their real purpose is to extract as much data from their users (both individuals *and* businesses) as possible.
Obviously that includes data which has nothing to do with their service but to which both their service terms and the technical aspects of the service grant access.

The technology exists, even in very dry places, and it's being used by some communities. More adoption of that would be great too. I do wonder what the ecological impact would be.

I feel like if I were an engineer who worked for years on visual AI models like #Sora, #DallE, #DeepDream, etc, I would by now have developed brain damage or some sort of dissociative disorder from viewing so much derangement.
Just seeing some of this stuff is painful, but seeing it day in day out seems like it could slowly erode your actual perception & sense of reality.
I know certain things get in your head. Like the first time I used VR, my dreams were influenced by that type of space.

I'm a software engineer & I'm happy with it. Its clear logic & functionality is a great balancer for my creative side.
Recently I began studying electronic engineering. I want to have a better understanding of something ubiquitous - electricity & its myriad uses. I'm also interested in practical knowledge about fixing things that break.
