Anyone know anything about counter.social?

Big picture: is banning entire country IP blocks a good approach to moderation?

Small picture: I keep getting a 500 Internal Server Error when I try to DM my friend there.

@walker I get a 500 trying to follow [email protected] as well - probably related to whatever "hardening" modifications he made to his instance, if I had to guess
@walker hell, I even had to remove the @ from the beginning of jester's handle just to get my toot about it to send - even doing an account mention gives a 500
@djsundog OK, so it’s not just me (or my instance) then. This is pretty wacky, all together.
@walker the admin of that instance appears to be a member of the #infosec community who has been known to do wacky things ;)
@djsundog Yeah I’m kind of surprised I haven’t heard of him before, but I guess it’s impossible to have heard of everyone.
@djsundog @walker That should be filed as a bug: invalid user handles should not affect the ability to post a toot
@duck57 @djsundog I believe that my toot posted anyway, despite the error, but that the mentioned username did not become a link and did not presumably reach that user. It could be tested further.

@walker @duck57 @djsundog

Did you guys end up figuring out the issue with @counter.social? I originally wanted to use @counter.social as my main instance, but if people from other instances can't add, or even find, me...

@walker

It's a bad approach to moderation. Opaquely disallowing 87% of the world is dumb, also, the ban page apparently ends with `/etc/passwd` ().

@walker uh, for the record, server's physically in Amsterdam
@halcy Yeah ... I didn’t think that was the problem. Thanks :)
