> Carrie Lam says anyone who has a "passion for Hong Kong has the responsibility to ensure that, here in Hong Kong, “One Country, Two Systems” advances in the right direction [and has] the obligation to say “no” to any attempt to threaten our country’s sovereignty, security and development interests.

Secessionists, sit down and don't rock the boat.

> HK$700 million will be invested in several projects to develop Hong Kong into a Smart City.

Whatever that means.

Live blog: Carrie Lam's maiden policy address - RTHK

12:03 Carrie Lam kept her promise of giving a short and sweet maiden policy address, maintaining a breathless pace that left many of the city’s media...

> The Chief Executive has proposed halving Hong Kong’s profits tax from 16.5% to 8.25% for the first HK$2 million earned by all companies.

That's nice. Thank you!
> using the government’s MTR dividends to subsidise public transport

Sounds like a great idea.

Now, what she hasn't said is how she will revive democratic reform. (Basic Law Article 45)

On the other hand, she also didn't say she would move on implementing the contentious sedition laws. (Basic Law Article 23)

@clacke I suspect the green angle will probably be an extremely successful vector for "smart city" stuff, all over the world. And to some extent perhaps it should be, it may be easier to retrofit better power management stuff to old buildings than to partially rebuild them using the latest passive technologies. I suspect you could reap the majority of the available savings without the data leaving the building, though.
@solderpunk Yes. What will happen though is, the data will leave the building. And the Americans, Russians, Chinese and North Koreans will be controlling it.
